Plastics with many names
- Cornstarch : In order for cornstarch powder to form desired shapes, up to 70% of PP and PET are required. There is no 100% cornstarch-made products in the market.
- PP : Polypropene, a thermoplastic polymer, a common plastic used to package food and drinks.
- PVC : Polyvinyl Chloride, the most common plastic in our daily lives, from credit cards to children toys.
- PLA & PET : Polylactide (PLA) is a thermoplastic aliphatic polyester, Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) is a plastic resin and also a form of polyester; some advertise them as eco-friendly alternatives that is compostable and recyclable. Unfortunately, specific industrial facility and costly processing technique is required to recycle both PLA and PET. While the conditions are not met, they are just plastic waste and as harmful to our environment like other plastics.
